How Great Thou Art! Part 2-3
My second and third “How Great Thou Art” moments happened in the same weekend. We went on safari with the Brown family at Paraa Safari Lodge. On our first night there, we went on our first ever game drive. WOW! How Great Thou Art!
I was overwhelmed by all of the beautiful animals that the Lord made. We saw elephants and giraffes and some adorable warthogs. And God made them all in his image. We also saw some animals that (I thought) weren’t quite as… well lovely. The Jackson’s Hartebeests looked like antelopes with a horse’s head and two horns. Our safari guide told us that all they do is fight. That explains the ugly face.
We also learned that lions sleep twenty hours a day, and that was why it wasn’t likely that we would see them. One of the most interesting things that I learned was that elephants are pregnant for almost two years! That’s a long time! But what I really saw was the greatness of our Lord in everything he made.
The next day, we went on another game drive and saw… A LION!!! We were so excited to see a lion, even though it was so far away you needed binoculars to see it. On our last day, we went to Murchison Falls. Here comes my next “How Great Thou Art” moment. After we got out of our van, we had to hike up a path to the falls. Before we went up the trail, I had to use the bathroom. I opened the door to the latrine and flying around inside of the stall was a…BAT!
My mom was with me and, being afraid of bats, she instantly shut the door to the stall. We both decided it was better to wait for the person in the other stall to be finished. A few minutes later, we went up the trail to Murchison Falls. Murchison Falls is definitely high on my Top Ten Most Breathtaking Things in the World list.
How. Great. Thou. Art. The white falls cascaded down into a foamy river below. After taking about a hundred pictures, each time changing the people in the picture/the pose, we went over to this bridge. You were allowed to stand at the end of the bridge, but if you did, you got a generous amount of Murchison Falls water on you. I decided to get soaked. Standing at the end of the bridge, closing my eyes, I felt the Spirit of God. I stood there for a few minutes until I decided I was done getting, “Soaked by the Spirit”.
These two “How Great Thou Art” moments were truly magnificent. The remarkable thing is that if you ask other people about “How Great Thou Art” moments in their life, they won’t say the same thing I said. Not too many people have the chance to have the experiences I’ve had in Uganda. And I’m proud of that.
God Bless, Jennifer
I can almost feel the water cascading over me as I read your description. “Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.” Thank you for sharing your “How Great Thou Art” moments.
